The Tapeworm Diet

Here's an appalling example of how far people are willing to go for weight-loss: The sanitized tapeworm as a weight-loss tool. You know how you used to quip that your cousin must have a tapeworm because they ate so much and yet never gained an ounce? Well, someone decided to capitalize on that, and started offering a baby tapeworm to people to swallow -- the tapeworm then eats the food you consume from the inside of your body. This first became a fad in the 1800s and luckily hasn't come back with much attention , but there are people out there willing to try it!

Tapeworm importing or selling is illegal in the United States. Consumers who want to attempt this diet will have to travel to Mexico to do so. Once you arrive at the location for treatment (quite possibly a slaughterhouse), you will be provided with cysts expelled from cows which you are to consume. This results in a beef tapeworm growing inside the digestive tract (beef tapeworms can reach up to 40 feet in length).

Here's the problem with the tapeworm diet -- a tapeworm is a harmful medical condition. Doing so would be like injecting yourself with a severe stomach virus in order to lose 10 pounds in a couple of days. Tapeworms don't just eat your food -- they eat your nutrients, making you malnourished ... and with a grotesque, fluid-filled belly!

Tapeworms are of different species which number four. There is the pork tapeworm, beef tapeworm, dwarf tapeworm, and then the fish tapeworm. When you have ingested any of these worms in order to lose your weight, you will at some point, maybe even early on, start showing serious symptoms. Besides fast weight loss, you'll have nausea, stomach aches, diarrhea (causing you to lose even more nutrients), and lack of appetite, and you'll feel weak. When continuing the tapeworm diet despite these symptoms, the following will occur:
  • Fevers. Your immune system isn't going to stand up to this forever, and you'll start running fevers to try and fight infections.
  • Echinococcosis. This is very serious, mainly affecting the liver as it developes many cysts. In some cases liver transplants are even required.
  • Cysticerosis (Lymphs and Cysts). The larvae from the tapeworm (and they all have larvae) will live in all of your body tissues and as well as your organs. The lesions and cysts you are making will pop out over the course of months. Organ function will rebel, and say, "enough, I'm going to quit and rupture!" So when that happens, you are in deep woods.
  • Neurocysticerosis. This is highly serious, as it attacks both the brain and nervous system. As a result, vision is disturbed and seizures set in which can cause fatal results.
  • Death. If the result of staying on the sanitized tapeworm diet does not become fatal to you, then you will need treatments to clear up the medical issues that have happened and get rid of the tapeworm infections and cycsts. This requires medications and, in some cases, surgical removal.
If you have plans to kill yourself gradually, this is a great way to diet and lose weight while also feeling miserable and malnourished from no vitamins. But if you want to lose weight and keep it off, consider consuming something a little healthier than worms.
