This is the time to promote immunizations and remind everyone around you to get caught up on their shots. This includes your family, friends and coworkers. Vaccinations are not just for adolescents and babies. We all need shots to help protect us from illness as well as serious diseases. Listed below are recommended shots:

·         Flu Vaccination Everyone who is six months or older, should get an influenza vaccination yearly and September is the time to do it with the flu season only a few months away.  Luckily the fluvaccine can come in two forms, a shot or a nasal spray. Click here for more information!

·         Babies to Children Age 6 a series of shots to protect against measles, polio, chicken pox, and hepatitis is recommended. For an immunization schedule click here. If you have any questions on why there are so many vaccinations when you are young please visit the CDC website or even click herefor quick facts.

·         Preteens and Teens, Age 7- 18 Pre-teens need shots at age 11 to help protect them from tetanus, whooping cough, diphtheria, meningitis and HPV. They also receive a booster shot at age 16 to continue the protection from meningitis. For more information on the different diseases click on the links. ·         AdultsThe specific immunizations you need as an adult are determined by factors such as your age, lifestyle, high-risk conditions, type and locations of travel, and previous immunizations. Throughout your adult life, you need immunizationsto get and maintain protection.  Everyone over the age of 18 needs to receive  a booster shot every 10 years to protect against tetanus, diphtheria and whooping cough. If you are an adult with diabetes, make sure to receive a Hepatitis B shot as well.

·         Adults over the age of 60 if you are 60, make sure to get a vaccine for shingles. When you are older than 65, or an adult with specific health conditions you might also have to receive a one-time pneumonia shot.

Overall, everyone needs to keep up to date on their vaccinations whether they are traveling or simply protecting their health as well as keep track using a shot record.  For more information on Vaccinations and you, click on this link to fill out a quick quiz!
