Food Bourne illness during your Fourth of July celebration is more common than you think. To help prevent cross contamination or the spread of bacteria keep your cold food with a temperature of 40 degrees or below as well as your chicken to have an internal temperature at 160 degrees and poultry at 165 degrees. Do not let your food sit outside in the heat for more than one hour! Here is a video for more information.
Being safe in the sun is extremely important and can decrease the risk of spending your Independence Day in the emergency room. When you are using proper techniques you can avoid sunburns and even heat stroke. To help aid with the fun in the sun remember to always drink water, especially if alcohol is consumed. Reapply your sunscreen at least every two hours and wear a hat and sunglasses to protect your face. For more information on the symptoms of heat stroke click here.
