Dangers of Fad Diets

asd
Did you know that there is no better way to train your body to gain weight than to go on a diet?

The diet industry is a multi-billion-dollar industry that gives people unrealistic expectations for a body they can achieve through the unrealistic means of their product. These businesses are there to make money, not to look out for your overall health and well-being. They make their money by repeat customers - dieters who go on their diet, lose weight, get off the diet, gain their weight back, then return to the program to lose it again. If a diet were truly effective and permanent, don't you think their income and customer population would plateau as people achieved their weight goal and had no more need for the program? If a business's goal is to keep their customers coming back, what does that say for the effectiveness of their dieting product? When it comes to the dieting industry, the only permanent weight you can expect to lose is the weight of the money in your pocket.

Identifying fad diets is not as difficult as it seems...
Some nutritionists define a fad diet by a series of questions rather than assessing popularity:

■Recommendations that promise a quick fix

■Dire warnings of dangers from a single product or regimen

■Claims that sound too good to be true

■Simplistic conclusions drawn from a complex study

■Recommendations based on a single study

■Dramatic statements that are refuted by reputable scientific organizations

■Lists of "good" and "bad" foods

■Recommendations made to help sell a product

■Recommendations based on studies published without review by other researchers

■Recommendations from studies that ignore differences among individuals or groups

■Eliminated one or more of the five food groups

Warnings about Fad Diets:

...Watch for diets that severely restrict or advocate one food group.

...Always doubt any scientific claims that have no scientific evidence to support them.

...Claims of rapid weight loss are clear warning signs of a diet that will also rapidly return you to your pre-diet weight (Never engage in a diet that claims to allow you to lose more than 1-2 lbs per week - this type of weight loss is mostly water weight as body fat cannot be reduced that quickly).

...Be suspicious of programs that appear to rely on "chemical reactions" to produce weight loss or boost the metabolism.

...NEVER engage in a diet that you couldn't stick to for the rest of your life or you will gain it all back, and then some, as soon as you discontinue the program.
