Week Five: Give

asd
Welcome to the fifth week of Healthy Lifestyle's Healthy Holidays program! This time of year brings out the best in people. We encourage you to make it a habit to give to others in any way you can. You can commit random acts of kindness, volunteer, visit the elderly, or donate money, clothes, toys, or food.

5 TIPS FOR GIVING:
(click on any of the highlighted organizations for more information)

1. Give of Yourself.  Blood donations usually slow down around the holiday season, help those in need by volunteering to give blood if you are eligible.  ARUP is the sole blood provider to patients in need at our local hospitals such as; Huntsman Cancer Institute, Primary Children’s Medical Center, Shriners Hospital for Children, and the University of Utah Hospitals and Clinics.
Another great place to donate blood is the American Red Cross.

 2. Give of your Time. This time of year there are many opportunities to volunteer your time and talents to help those in need.
-To support locally grown products volunteer at the Community Food Co-Op.
-Do you love animals?   No More Homeless Pets in Utah  or Humane Society of Utah  are great organizations for people with a love of animals to give of their time.
-Do you love art and have a desire to share your talents? Try Art- Kids.
-The George E. Wahlen Dept. of Veterans Affairs Medical Center has a well established volunteer program that is alwayls in need of more help.
-Another great way to serve is to visit senior citizens. If you would like to help serve Meals on Wheels Christmas Eve contact Marvin Conrad with the county at 801-468-2452.

 3. Give of your Means. This time of year causes many of us to reflect on the countless blessings we’ve received. A great way to serve is to give of your means to those in need. A few great places to give as well as volunteer are; The Christmas Box House, Make-A-Wish Foundation, and Toys for Tots.

 4. Give from your Heart. No matter how frugal, homemade gifts always strike a chord because it is clear that you spent one of your most valuable resources, your time. Visit these websites for great craft ideas; Family Fun, Got Crafts, and Craft Bits.

5. Make it a Family Affair. Giving as a family can create great memories and strengthen family ties. Try the Ronald McDonald House or a Homeless Shelter  for opportunities to give or volunteer your time.

Week Five Challenges:
Since the focus this week is giving, your challenge will be to give in whatever way you can or choose. Pick an organization to give to, volunteer your time, make a homemade treat for a neighbor, or give a smile to a friend. Contribute in any way you can, this will enhance and satisfy your holiday season. Find four ways of your choice to give this week. Once you've completed each service draw a check mark in the daily box on your Tracker. The goal is to have four checked boxes this week.
