Drink More Water!

Every part of our bodies, cells, tissues, and organs, are made up of water. Water also helps to regulate your digestive system and body temperature, cushions and lubricates your muscles and joints, and keeps your skin clear and hydrated. As you can see, water is an important aspect of health.

The recommended amount of water to consume in a day is 64 ounces (oz.). If you drink a caffeinated beverage or participate in a vigorous activity during the day, you should drink even more than 64 oz. Remember that being thirsty is simply a sign that your body is becoming dehydrated.
Here are some tips to reach the daily recommended amount (64 oz.):
  • Always carry a water bottle with you.
  • Strategically place glasses or bottles of water at your desk, by your computer, in your car, by the couch at home, etc.
  • Have a 32 or 64 ounce water bottle to drink from throughout the day. You can even use a Big Gulp from 7 11. (This will help you keep track throughout your day as well as give yourself a goal to finish the 64 oz. or finish the two 32 oz. water bottles!)
  • Eat fruits and vegetables that contain higher amounts of water (Examples: lettuce, tomatoes, watermelon, peaches, oranges, and grapes)
  • Drink your water through a straw!
  • Add a lemon to your water or use citrus ice cubes (squeeze your favorite citrus fruit like lemon, lime, or orange into ice cube trays before freezing!)
  • Have a cup of tea before bedtime! Decaffeinated tea can help you sleep better as well as add more water to your day.
