Commit to be Fit
Commit to be Fit is an initiative designed to make Salt Lake County a healthy and fit place to live, work, and play. It's purpose is to help county residents make a pledge to do something, small or large, to lead a healthy and fit life. Examples of these commitments are as follows:
- I will commit to be fit by parking farther away when I go to the store
- I will commit to be fit by walking my children to school
- I will commit to be fit by taking the stairs instead of the elevator
- I will commit to be fit by walking my dog every day
- I will commit to be fit by riding my bike to work twice a week
- I will commit to be fit by training for and running my first 5k
- I will commit to be fit by learning to play tennis
- I will commit to be fit by playing outside with my children 5 times a week
- I will commit to be fit by walking or riding my bike to places within one mile of my house rather than driving
Commit to be Fit is also a competition between cities and townships, and the area with the highest percentage of participants will be named Salt Lake County's Fittest Community. See how your community is doing.
Do something in your community to promote fitness today! Encourage friends, family members, and neighbors to make the commitment! Help Salt Lake County become a healthier place to live!

If the weather is not cooperating, here are some suggestions of ways to be active indoors:
- Walk around the mall, take some time before and after shopping to briskly walk the perimeter. You can do this around the perimeter of the grocery store, too!
- Try a new class at the gym you belong to.
- Salt Lake County offers some less expensive options for memberships to the local recreation centers, visit Salt Lake County Parks and Recreation for some more information.
- Use those gaming systems to get active with the family, try a game that requires you to be up and moving. Look for deals online for previously owned games for a less expensive option.
- Try an indoor rock climbing gym.
- Take the stairs whenever/wherever possible.
